Vivienne

Vivienne, Viv, Vivi… take your pick. Not just the owner of the studio but a real fan of hot yoga too, whose passion comes through in her teaching as well as her own practice. Vivi is a true leader, a compassionate teacher who encourages students to deepen their awareness and understanding of both their bodies and minds to maximise personal potential.

Vivienne

For Vivienne, yoga is all about quieting the mind, turning the focus inward, and becoming present.

The framed ‘Asylum/Asylimb Definitions’ in the studio lounge area, sums up her attitude and feelings towards her business and her students perfectly. Viv loves the idea of students ‘coming home’ to the studio and finding a degree of familiarity each day with the class being taught, sufficient enough so that you get a gauge on how you feel but also varied enough to keep you on your toes and continue learning.

“What we are doing during each class is also all about improving what happens to you off the mat too. The poses will test you physically but on a deeper level, enable your mind and body to become more connected.”

Vivi’s life is filled outside yoga with the other things she’s most passionate about. A keen home gardener, she grows most of the fresh vegetables the family need all year round in her purpose-built raised veggie beds, as well as an array of flowers. She is also a coffee connoisseur and a great home cook, specialising in fresh and fusion.

She’s continued to grow the business in the ten plus years she’s been associated with it. First as a teacher, introducing new methods and then bringing in new teaching talent and then as the owner, increasing the number of classes and opportunities for all her students to progress.

Ian

Ian came to hot yoga via an unusual route. As a career Policeman in the UK, and NZ much of his time was spent as an undercover operative that proved the importance of maintaining his strength of mind.

Ian

After leaving the Police, Ian fulfilled a prolonged dream to write a book and in the process, discovered a greater passion for writing than he could have imagined. He then began writing full-time, using his previous police career as the inspiration for a series of crime novels that have become bestsellers.

He started practicing yoga at Hot Yoga Asylimb in 2018 to improve his physical and mental well-being. His earlier career had left several mental and physical scars which regular classes had a soothing effect on.

Practice soon became another passion — as is Ian’s way he throws himself into everything he does with complete commitment.

In 2019 he completed an intensive, month long teacher training programme in Bali, where he qualified as an internationally accredited yoga instructor at the end of that month. Ian began formally teaching in February 2020.

He’s found both practicing and teaching really helps the writing process.

In 2022 Ian designed his first class sequence, which has since been included into the studio’s regular schedule.
‘My own practice gives me the whole-body work-out I love. The challenge and satisfaction I get from every class keeps me coming back for more. That’s what I hope to get students I teach to feel too and go home with a big smile on their face.’
